A Leading Promoter/Practitioner of Hypnosis & Hypnotherapy.

Gerard V. Sunnen, M.D., received his medical degree from the State of New York Medical School, Downstate Medical Center. Following an internship in surgery and medicine at Bellevue Hospital, New York, he was appointed resident, then chief resident at Bellevue Psychiatric Hospital.

He has practiced medicine and psychiatry in the Air Force, in forensic, acute care, and general hospital settings, and is currently in private practice and a consultant to several corporations and agencies. He is Health consultant to the French Consulate and Mission in New York, and has received many commendations to the cause of enriching French-American fellowship.

Dr Sunnen is a co-founder and honorary president of the International Association for Emergency Psychiatry, an organization seeking to develop emergency psychiatric services worldwide. For his humanitarian activities, he was awarded the title of “Chevalier du Merite” by the French government.

He has for many years applied medical hypnosis to numerous aspects of patient care. It was during his internship that he began to enlist hypnotic assistance to anesthesia, to the toning of body and mind prior to operations and procedures, and to accelerating the recovery process. During his residency he applied medical hypnosis to the treatment of anxieties, phobias, habit disorders, depressive conditions, and to the goals of psychotherapy itself, namely self discovery and positive personal transformation. In his book “A Primer of Clinical Hypnosis,” Dr Sunnen explores a subject of special interest to him, namely the relationship between hypnosis and meditative experiences. For these insights, he expresses everlasting gratitude to his late parents who were both students of Paramahansa Yogananda.

Both in the United States and his native France, Dr. Sunnen has lectured on innovative techniques of psychotherapy, the therapeutic potential of special states of awareness, clinical applications in psychopharmacology, and the future of psychiatry.

A Diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, Dr. Sunnen has been an Assistant, then an Associate Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at the New York University-Bellevue Medical center for 20 years. He is a member of the American and of the International societies of Clinical Hypnosis.

Dr. Sunnen has developed a unique method of therapy, bringing together self hypnosis, meditation, and Eastern systems of health care. This method, containing written and audio material is published under the name “Omniforce.”

Interested in medical research for many years, Dr. Sunnen is currently President and Director of Science of Medizone International Inc., a research and development stage Company engaged in the development of an ozone based treatment for diseases caused by lipid enveloped viruses, including Hepatitis B and C, Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS), and Herpes; and in the development of its patented technology for the decontamination of blood, blood products and veterinary serum products. It has recently filed a new patent application for the external use of its technology to treat external pathological conditions.
